Replacing decking VS when you need a brand new deck.
RB
Lets talk decks! Great for family functions, barbeques, or great to just spend some time outside. When it comes time whether you noticed signs of rot, boards rising or bowing, damage, or just want an updated look to your deck - keeping a safe functioning deck is priority above all. In this post we will discuss when it is fine to just give your deck an updated or fresh look vs when you need a whole demolition of the existing deck and start from scratch.
While these are just examples of deck conditions, no deck is the same, JC Construction will ultimately decide what option is best for your deck when quoting!
Replacing deck boards ONLY
If your happy with your existing deck and just want an updated look or only notice small damages, no problem we can take care of that! Here some examples of common signs of only deckboards needing to be replaced.
- Visible splits in the board
- Softness in boards only
- Warping
- Loose boards
- Discoloration
- Chips or chunks missing
- Aesthetics
Demolition of whole deck
When a deck is unsafe, it is best to remove and refresh. Decks get a lot of foot traffic and tend to hold quite a bit of weight, the last thing anyone needs is to be worried about falling through or being on their deck when it collapses. Here are some signs you may need your deck to be demolished.
- Rot in the frame
- Severe structural damage
- Insect infestation in the support beams or frame
- Sagging or leaning
- The deck is unstable/wobbly
- If the deck is old and doesn't meet modern safety standards
